86 Supply Depot
Served at 86 Supply Depot R.A.S.C. Dortmund in Butchery/Cold Store from 1957-1960
Cannot remember the name of the barracks, but 31st FIELD AMBULANCE were in the immediate area, as was 45 FIELD REGIMENT ROYAL ARTILLARY. I remember that the BUFFS were also just along the road.
Other personel in the butchery were Sgt Turnbull, and Cpl Des Wade.
Civilian butchers employed were Edward (German) and Charlie (Polish).
Civilian depot superintendant was Johnny Kazmierzak (Polish), cant remember the name of the sergeant who worked alongside Johnny.
Lots of civilian and military storekeepers were employed, as were a large number of M.S.O.and G.S.O. labourers.
They were very happy days and I could go on for hours about those three years.
I did go back to Dortmund last year, but only had 2/3 days and was pretty well lost!! I do intend to pay another extended visit this year, but I am told that I will be very disappointed as little remains of all the various camps in the area.
