HQ 6 Armoured Division Signal Regiment 1952-1958
The original 6 Armoured Divisional Signals was in Italy in 1945, and was renamed 1 Armoured Divisional Signal Regiment in 1946, disbanding in 1947. 6 Armoured Division Signal Regiment was reformed in 1951 and members were temporarily housed at various locations in BAOR and the UK until the new Birdwood Barracks was completed, I along with others of 6 Armoured Divisional Signal Regt were 'guests' of 11 Armoured Division located at Wentworth Barracks, Herford.
In 1952 6 Armoured Division became the first occupants of Birdwood Barracks, Bunde.
In early 1952 April/May we took possession of the newly completed barracks, with HQ 6 Armoured Division occupying the top end of the camp and HQ 6 Armd Div Signals the lower half.
The Commanding Officer of 6 Armd Div Signals was Colonel Tullock and the RSM was WO1 Jimmy Derwent.
